Looking for High-Performance Plastic Components?
30% Glass Filled Nylon 6/6 is an extruded grade of the Nylon solid polymer shapes family. Unlike Nylon 6 (Cast grade), it provides the opportunity to be extruded into not only standard shapes such as rod, tubing, and sheet. Usually black in color custom shapes such as hexagonal, square and profiles are available as custom runs. Extruding shapes in this manner provides for the ability to machine with conventional lathe and screw machines. Close tolerances are easy to achieve. It has been commercially available since 1948; developed by DuPont. 30% Glass Filled Nylon 6/6 is well known for excellent toughness and electrical insulating properties. It also has good abrasion resistance making it ideal for fittings, pins, bushings and structural components. With a low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CoTE), 30% Glass Filled Nylon 6/6 combined with improved wear resistance makes it an excellent choice for many electrical insulating, bearing and wear components.
30% Glass Filled Nylon 6/6 is easily machined into precision parts using standard metalworking equipment. Tolerances of +/-.002 are easily achieved with experience. However faster tool wear is experienced due to the glass content. It is available in a broad variety of shapes and sizes. Rod and sheet stock normally comes slightly over sized for machining purposes. Both extruded and cast grades of nylon are available with different fillers and solid lubricants to accommodate specific application demands.
Several manufacturers offer varying grades and filled versions thereof by the names of Tecamid® and Nylatron®. Solid lubricants such as mineral oil, graphite, PTFE Teflon®, and MoS2 provide lower friction, while reinforcing agents such as carbon fiber, Kevlar®, and glass fibers provide higher levels of strength and dimensional stability.
